School officials in 18 districts across Long Island are hoping taxpayers who rejected their spending plans on Super Tuesday will vote yes this time around.
In the Patchogue-Medford School District there was a large turnout in the polling places. Many with kids in schools say they are for the budget even though it will mean a double-digit increase in taxes. Others say they were confused when voting since the budget was linked to a proposition they didn?t understand.
If the budgets don?t get passed this time, the schools will go on an immediate contingency budget with an increase capped at 4 percent. Many students hope the spending plans get passed because they realize the importance of many of the programs that may have to get cut.
