High school students from across Long Island are learning about the Holocaust from people who lived through it all those years ago.

The teens have been meeting with survivors to hear about their experiences through the Links 2 Legacy program.

Over the past six months, students from different LI high schools have gathered at the Suffolk Y JCC to meet with Ada Gracin, Zelda Polofsky, and Walter Kleinmann.

As part of this unique program, the group even attended a Hanukkah celebration together, visited the survivors’ homes, and shared meals with one another.

Participants say it's important to teach students what happened, so those stories are never forgotten.

"I feel compelled to speak out and to teach the young people the truth that is not made-up stories. It happened,” one student shared.

A special luncheon was held Sunday in Commack to celebrate the completion of the program.

The interviews will be shared in a documentary in April.
