Firehouses across Long Island are hoping to get more volunteer firefighters this weekend.
The event is part of the Recruit NY, a statewide effort to boost the number of volunteer firefighters.
People can learn more about how they can help their local fire departments during the virtual or in-person events.
There will be tours of the firehouses and fire appartus.
Visitors will be allowed to try on gear, as well as take place in activites at the event.
Members of the fire departments will discuss the rewards of being a firefighter, and conduct demonstrations and answer questions.
THe Recruit NY event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, but they say they still need help.
Fire departments are looking for candidates 18 or older, are in good health and want to give back to the community.
Some of the event will be taking place at the Greenlawn Fire Department on Boulevard Avenue near Broadway, the Yaphank Fire Department near Charles E. Walters Elementary SChool and the Williston Park Fire Department.
