The results of a survey are pushing the Long Beach school board to once again consider closing one of the district’s four elementary schools.
The survey asked parents to rank their funding priorities for the school district. Keeping the four elementary schools open fell in the middle of the rankings - below extracurricular activities, mental health services and air conditioning.
School district officials say the survey results, combined with declining enrollment, show the idea of closing an elementary school deserves another look.
There was a previous plan to close East Elementary School, but it was ultimately scrapped following community opposition.
It’s unclear which elementary school might be on the chopping block.
