A rally held in Long Beach Sunday called for the environmental protection of Long Island's South Shore.

People protested the Rapid Act proposed by Gov. Kathy Hochul on the Long Beach Boardwalk. It would streamline the environmental review process for underground transmission lines related to offshore wind projects.

A similar project was shut down following outrage from the Long Beach community.

Protesters say the Rapid Act will take away their voice.

Hochul proposed the measure in her State of the State address. She says it will speed up the transition to renewable energy.
