Students in the Locust Valley School District returned to the classroom today with masks on.
The Locust Valley Board of Education voted Tuesday to implement the state mask mandate.
The decision came after voting on Monday night not to implement a mask mandate, which would have gone against the state.
The mask mandate will be implemented for 90 days.
All but one board member voted to implement the state mask mandate during the special meeting.
The board had originally voted to make masks optional, but the board's legal counsel advised members that the state health department's mandate has the same requirements as law.

Parents with children in the district have mixed feelings about the mandate.
In a letter posted on the district website after Tuesday’s meeting, the Locust Valley superintendent said that though the district would follow state regulations, the board voted to retain outside counsel to fight the state mask mandate.
