Residents in Lloyd Harbor continue to clash over a proposed 150-foot radio tower.
Suffolk County officials are proposing the new tower to correct spotty cell phone coverage that has resulted in some residents being unable to reach the village police department. Lloyd Harbor police say at least a dozen cases of communication breakdowns have been documented in the last year. Current radio antennas are located 90 feet high on water towers in Caumsett Sate Park. A recent study reported the tower had to be at least 150 feet to be effective.
Many residents complain the tower will be an eyesore in the rural area. Others argue it is necessary to fix a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.
