Officials say live wires fell into a street in Merrick this afternoon.

Chopper 12 was over the scene on Lindenmere Drive and Byron Road.

Nassau police say the base of the utility pole caught on fire, bringing the wires down.

Police have closed off Lindenmere Drive at Merrick Road to keep people from driving past the wires.
