LIRR considering physical barriers to combat fare evasion

Across the board, fare evasion costs the MTA nearly $700 million a year.

The MTA is now weighing several options to try and stop fair beaters on the LIRR.

One of those measures includes installing "physical barriers" to keep riders from walking onto trains without showing their tickets.

According to a new report released by the MTA's Blue Ribbon Panel, the LIRR loses more than $24 million every year on unpaid fares.

Across the board, fare evasion costs the MTA nearly $700 million a year.
