An overturned tractor-trailer created a traffic nightmare on the Long Island Expressway Thursday.
Police say at approximately 12:30 a.m., the driver of a tractor-trailer carrying concrete lost control of the vehicle and veered into a median at exit 33 in North Hills. The collision caused the truck to ignite and to spill some of its contents on the roadway.
Westbound lanes of the expressway were entirely shut down at Exit 33. All lanes reopened around 5:30 a.m. Eastbound lanes were also shut down for about three hours.
According to police, no injuries were reported and no summonses have yet been issued to the driver of the vehicle.
