A special tribute was held Saturday to honor Vietnam War veterans on the 50th anniversary of the war.
Dozens attended the ceremony at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, where veterans received a commemorative pin for the service and sacrifice.
Lawrence Keating, of Eastport, vividly remembers the backlash he felt after returning home from serving two tours in Vietnam.
"In the [airport] terminals, we were all 'baby killers'...it was just horrendous," said Keating.
Long Island National Cemetery President Frank Colon Jr. says we must always say "Thank you - and never forget."
"I give them a lot of credit for what they've done...they've never gotten full credit," said Colon Jr.
The ceremony also honored the more than 4,000 Vietnam veterans who are buried at the national cemetery.
