Long Islanders are spending Memorial Day remembering and giving back to those serving overseas.In Hauppauge, residents at the Arbor Assisted Living Center are helping to send blankets for U.S. soldiers. Twenty residents at the facility are veterans from World War II.The program was organized by Dorine Kenney at the Jacob's Light Foundation. Kenney's son, Pfc. Jacob S. Fletcher, was killed in Iraq in 2003.Sgt. 1st Class Pete Swiderski says it can be very uplifting for troops overseas to get a care package when returning from a mission.
