A 19-year-old Fairfield University student was arrested by Fairfield police for promoting a SantaCon event at private beach houses he has no connection to. Police say Emmet Blaney, of Massapequa, promoted fake SantaCon gatherings at different private beach residences, garnering over 600,000 views. He was arrested on Wednesday and charged with criminal attempt to commit disorderly conduct and criminal attempt to commit criminal trespass.  The arrest was made the same day police posted online saying there will be no public SantaCon events in Fairfield this year, except a private event hosted by Fairfield University for students and their guests. Last year, the town saw thousands of college-aged people gather at the beach and cause quality-of-life issues, putting a strain on emergency services. As News 12 reported, Fairfield residents had to clean up a beer-can laden mess on Penfield Beach that was made by partygoers. “Following last year’s difficulties, the Fairfield Police Department, Town officials, and Fairfield University collaborated to develop a more controlled and responsible approach for 2025," police wrote in a statement online. “Our priority is protecting our residents, our neighborhoods, and everyone’s safety," Chief Michael Paris wrote in a statement, "If you are not invited to the private event, do not come to Fairfield expecting a public SantaCon celebration. There isn’t one. Our message is simple: If you come to Fairfield to break the law or disrupt this community, you will be held accountable.”
Blaney was released by police and his next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 8.
