Several Long Island schools participated in the Upper Elementary School Division’s annual Hackathon on Friday.

The event, which took place at Willets Road School, saw students from numerous schools gain new skills in coding. It's part of a program organized by Kid-OYO aimed at teaching fourth and fifth graders how to use coding in team-based challenges.

"It's definitely going to advance them later in life,” said Hauppauge Middle School student Andrew Weir. “Having this experience very early, getting to learn teamwork, skills. I mean coding takes a lot. Math, engineering, even artwork. There's a lot of art that foes into games." 

 

The Kid-OYO program organizes four Hackathons every year.
