This Saturday marks the first anniversary of the Newtown school massacre.

In the year since the shooting, Long Island schools have spent thousands of dollars to keep our students safe.

Many districts have improved training for security guards and have more surveillance cameras.

Amityville alone has spent $250,000 installing cameras and buzzer entry systems at elementary schools, according to Newsday.
