Jets fans on Long Island were thrilled with the news that quarterback Brett Favre will be wearing the green uniform this season after a deal was reached with the Green Bay Packers. The 38-year-old Favre will be joining the Jets after spending 16 years playing for the Packers. At the end of last season, Favre announced his retirement from football, only to change his mind soon after.
Now, Favre will replace Chad Pennington as the Jets quarterback. Pennington, who in a recent interview praised Jets coach Eric Mangini for his fairness, will be released from the team at 4 p.m. Thursday.
?I think it?s a win-win,? says Ken Lind, a Jets fan of Holbrook.
Lind says the Favre trade deal is the best news he has heard from the Jets in a long time.
Jets fans hope Favre, who holds three MVP titles, will bring a winning spirit to the New York team that has been in need of a lift for a long time.
?He?s been to the Super Bowl, we haven?t been to Super Bowl forever, not in my lifetime anyway,? says a Jets fan Tony Priola, of Coram.
Favre will arrive at the Jets training camp at Hofstra University Friday for a closed practice. A public training session will be held on campus grounds Saturday, Aug. 8, at 1:30 p.m.
