Long Island high school athletes and coaches are drawing up a new game plan for the fall sports season, as long as it means they can take the field.
Under the current state plan, fall sports will have a condensed season beginning late September. In addition, there will be no state or regional championships.
Athletes say even if the season is shortened, they will accept it as long as they can get on the field. The coaches and athletes agree that it is tough to not have championships.
The Lindenhurst Bulldogs won the LIC last year. Even though they can't repeat the season, all-star LB Winey Jack is trying to stay positive.
"I just want to get on the field whether it's in the spring or fall," says Jack. "I just want to get back with the team and ball out."
So for the first time in a long time, there's a light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel.
