The LGBT Network held its annual prom Thursday in Hauppauge on the final night of Pride Month.
The event was the first-of-its-kind when it debuted in 2001.
LGBT Network leaders say the prom is a place for children to be their true selves.
"It's an opportunity for kids to feel good and to feel proud of who they are - and remember there's a community that they're a part of for those times when things get really rough or when they're bullied at school or rejected from their family or if they face discrimination in the community," says Robert Vitelli, of the LGBT Network.
The prom also honored the 75th anniversary of LGBT advocate Harvey Milk's graduation from Bay Shore High School.
