Suffolk Legislator Ed Romaine (R-Center Moriches) has introduced a bill aimed at purchasing foreclosed homes and turning them into affordable housing for working families.
"What we'd like to do is take something that truly is a lemon and turn it into lemonade,? Romaine says.
Ridge, Mastic-Shirley, Riverhead, Riverside, Flanders, Central Islip, Brentwood and Huntington Station are among the areas targeted by the legislation. Ridge Civic Association President Pat Henagan says he thinks such a law would help bring people back into areas being left because of the housing crisis and the economy.
County Executive Steve Levy says Romaine?s bill is similar to what is already on the books. Levy maintains he?s already on track to implement his foreclosure purchase plan before the end of the year.
