Laura Gillen has conceded in the Town of Hempstead supervisor race, she announced Thursday.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the first Democratic Supervisor in 112 years," Gillen said in a statement. "To those who supported my good government initiatives and fight against corruption, I am disappointed to say we fell just short."
Don Clavin Jr. declared himself winner of the race during the night of the election.
"I am dedicated to an inclusive and forward-thinking administration that will focus on providing the best government services at the lowest possible cost," Clavin said in a statement.
The Republican Board of Elections Commission says the final votes will be certified next week.
