It's been more than two months since Tropical Storm Isaias swept through Long Island, but one Suffolk community is still dealing with the storm's aftermath.
Hank Halinksi says he doesn't understand why a pile of debris from Isaias has not yet been picked up by the Brookhaven Highway Department.
He says the large logs, broken branches and decaying leaves have all been sitting on his Lake Ronkonkoma street since early August, and he's asked the town several times for help.
Halinksi and his neighbor Jean Kalish are both in their 80s. They say the mess is not only an eyesore, it's also dangerous.
This is not the only pile of debris from Isaias that residents say is still sitting in the neighborhood. You don't have to walk far to find several more. Some are on the smaller side, and others are much larger, taking up a good portion of the property.
One pile is on Lake Promenade, another on Pond Road and another on 11th Street.
Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro showed News 12 documents, which he says prove that crews serviced the streets on Aug. 12 and again on Sept. 10. He says any debris that's still there must have been put out later than that.
Halinksi insists the debris was on his curb the day after the storm.
In total, Brookhaven officials say they've removed nearly three-quarters of a million tons of Isaias debris from town roadways.
