Kings County Nurseries has announced it is shutting its doors this January.
Owners Joseph Merola Jr. and Lisa Merola told News 12 they were hit hard by the economic impact of COVID and business has slowed.
"I think because of things being so expensive: food, utilities, gas," Joseph Merola said. "Plants are the last thing on people's minds."
The Merola family has owned and operated Kings County Nurseries since 1955, which has also spanned over four generations.
"Neighborhoods have changed but it has been great to us," added Lisa Merola. "We have made a lot of relationships with our customers and met kids, grandkids, talk about recipes. We have created so many relationships here."
