Several kids learned what is like to play soccer while blind at a clinic in Farmingdale on Saturday.
The event happened at the Nassau-Suffolk Dek Hockey Rink.
Devin Fernandez, founder and program director of Third Eye Insight, says soccer is a great sport to teach teamwork. The group provides physical fitness classes for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. He said soccer is the next fastest growing sport for the blind on Long Island.
Sighted players and players who have visual impairments all donned eye masks to even the playing field. The players put their skills to the test, practiced drills and shot the ball by using their other senses, like hearing and touch.
This was the first soccer clinic hosted by Fitness for the Blind on the Island.
