Thousands of people were in Bethpage on Wednesday for a drone show honoring first responders who died in the Sept. 11 attacks and in the years after.

The drone show was at the Embassy Diner on Hempstead Turnpike.

Drones lit up the sky in the victims’ honor, spelled out “Never forget,” and created stars and the American flag.

"I lost a cousin on 9/11 and anybody that honors 9/11, I try to come. Never forget, " says Lorraine Vassiatore, of Belmont.

Gus Tsiorvas, owner of the Embassy Diner, organized the event. He says he's never done something like this before. But since many people in his family are first responders, it's important to him to honor them.

"My brothers and sisters are all police officers," says Tsiorvas. "I wanted to do something in order to bring everybody together to remember our first responders and for what they did."

Many at the tribute event said the same.

"I wouldn't be any other place than right here tonight," says Brett Veatty, of Islip.

"We're really proud to have this establishment in our community where we can do something like this and have something like this," says Larry Ortolani, of Bethpage.

For people who lost family members in the attacks, it means everything to honor them.

"We're never forgetting what happened," says Vassiatore.
