John Kennedy Jr. claimed victory Tuesday in the 12th Legislative District.
Legislator Kennedy was trying to get his name on both the Democratic and Republican lines for the November ballot. The Republican incumbent was already endorsed by Democrats, but was snubbed by his own party, who nominated Vincent Trimarco, Jr.
Kennedy has held his seat since 2004. He won the GOP primary with 57 percent of the vote. He will now run unopposed in November.
Kennedy says he plans to work alongside Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy?s administration on important issues.
