Jury selection is underway in the trial against Suffolk's Conservative Party chairman.
Prosecutors say Ed Walsh falsified time cards saying he was working when he was attending political conferences or visiting casinos.
They say Walsh collected over $80,000 for hours he was not on the job.
Walsh argues his job as a sheriff's lieutenant was working in the community as a liaison.
