Jury seeks testimony clarification amid Mangano retrial deliberations
The jury asked for clarification Monday on some testimony as they decide the fate of former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and his wife Linda in the couple's corruption retrial.
Ed Mangano is accused of accepting bribes from restaurateur Harendra Singh in exchange for official government action that benefited Singh. Linda Mangano is accused of lying to federal authorities on 11 different occasions, and obstructing justice.
On Monday, the jury requested a review of the testimony provided by FBI Special Agent Laura Spence, who interviewed Linda Mangano on several occasions.
Spence's testimony went hand in hand with a document that was entered into evidence by prosecutors during the trial. It lists the 11 times that Linda Mangano is alleged to have lied to the government over the course of three meetings.
The defense has argued that the government failed to provide evidence that Linda Mangano lied to the feds in part because the conversations were never taped and there are no transcripts or direct quotes attributed to the former county executive's wife.
Jury deliberations concluded around 5 p.m. Monday. They'll continue for a third day on Tuesday morning.
