(05/03/06) ALEXANDRIA, VA ? A jury in Alexandria, VA handed down a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole Wednesday against terrorist conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui.

Moussaoui is the only person charged in connection with the deadly attacks against America on September 11th, 2001. The verdict marked the end of a trial in which Moussaoui himself took the stand and taunted 9/11 victims and their families. In addition, Moussaoui told the court during his testimony he wished greater destruction could have been levied against the U.S. during the attacks.

Moussaoui pleaded guilty last year to charges stemming from his role in plotting the 9/11 attacks. He became eligible for the death penalty because he lied to federal agents a month before the attack, which allowed hijackers to go through with their plans. The judge, who is bound by the jury?s recommendation, will formally sentence Moussaoui Thursday morning.
