An Adelphi student was exonerated by a Nassau judge after he sued the university that claimed he used AI to plagiarize an essay, according to court documents.

As previously reported, then freshman Orion Newby filed the suit last year claiming his professor gave him a zero on his assignment and accused him of using AI without sufficient evidence. The history professor reported the suspected cheating to the university, and Newby was given an academic integrity violation.

Newby, who is on the autism spectrum, also claimed in the suit that the university used his disability against him.

Adelphi is now ordered in the judge's motion to expunge Newby’s academic record related to the violation and any other sanction imposed.
