An Adelphi student accused of using artificial intelligence to write an essay is now suing the university.
Freshman Orion Newby filed the suit. Newby has autism.
The lawsuit claims that Newby’s history professor gave him a zero on an assignment and accused him of using AI without sufficient evidence.
The professor then reported the suspected cheating to the university, which resulted in Newby receiving an academic integrity violation. He says a second offense could result in his expulsion.
The lawsuit claims the university used Newby’s disability against him.
A spokesperson for Adelphi University told News 12 that the university does not comment on pending litigation.
