It was a sea of black Saturday night in East Meadow as Long Island rock legend Joan Jett and the Blackhearts played a free concert to honor first responders.
Long Beach's Jett and her band played to what could have been a record crowd at the Eisenhower Park's Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater.
Jett and the Blackhearts brought the crowd to its feet with her rocking classics. Some hard core Long Island fans couldn't be happier to see the local Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
"And she's from Long Island! Long Beach! Go Joan! Whooo!" enthused Jude Bajic, of Hicksville.
The concert was dedicated to the front line workers who helped get Long Island through the pandemic, like FDNY paramedic Mike Zummo, who came with his family. They, of course, are all fans of the rocker.
"Thrilled here with my wife and family! It's great!" Setauket resident Zummo said.
"We love Joan Jett! We love rock and roll and we love our daddy here! He's our hero! So it's so nice they did this," said Christy Zummo.
"This is their night and it's a beautiful night, and were here to celebrate and show gratitude for all those people who worked through coronavirus," said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
For others who attended, it was a great time to get out, rock out and have some fun.
This concert was free for Long Islanders, but Nassau County paid for the event. Blakeman wouldn't say how much it cost but those who attended said it was worth every penny.
