A Long Island school that was the first to change its name in memory of President John F. Kennedy is celebrating his legacy on the anniversary of his assassination.

Kennedy was assassinated 50 years ago today. Bethpage Middle School was rechristened JFK Middle School only four days after the president was struck down by an assassin's bullet.

More than 700 students examined Kennedy's life today instead of their usual work. The school began preparing for today about a month ago. Students set aside five classroom periods to research and construct a JFK museum.

Students also Skyped with pupils at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Butte, Mont. - the second school in the nation to be named after the late president.
