Long Islanders were among the hundreds of travelers at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Friday still feeling the effects of the Valentine's Day storm.
Rick Cole, a coach at Island Volleyball Academy, says he and his team of 13 girls arrived at the airport at 7 a.m. After several hours of delays and multiple gate switches, jetBlue informed Cole and the team their flight was canceled because there wasn't an available crew. Instead of a two-hour flight, jetBlue provided a coach bus for the 10-hour drive to Columbus, Ohio, where a tournament awaited the tired team. The team also received a full refund and free round-trip tickets.
Representatives of jetBlue say 100 of the day's 570 flights were canceled because of pilot flight time restrictions. They say the airline will provide free round-trip tickets to many other passengers affected by cancellations.
