Animal rescues across Long Island are bursting at the seams with cats up for adoption.
Among the many places doing their part is Catpurrccinos in Huntington. Up front, you can get caffeinated, and in back you can play with cats!
With their "feral to family" rescue mission, the downtown spot is putting in the hard work to find families for the felines.
Claudia Kessler, the rescue coordinator, says the pandemic has made the process even more difficult because many low-cost spay/neuter clinics have closed down. She says thousands of cats on Long Island are being fed without being spayed or neutered.
Part of their work is to trap feral cats when called, bring them in, socialize them, get them vaccinated, spay/neuter and release them.
Every cat they have is up for adoption, including kittens under 4 months old, who have to be adopted in pairs.
