High school football teams across Long Island are headed into playoff weekend, but one team will not be competing and was forced to forfeit because of COVID-19.
The athletic director for Island Trees School District says the coach and several players for Island Trees High School tested positive for coronavirus. It is not clear exactly how many players tested positive.
The school was expected to face off against top-seeded Seaford Friday night.
Island Trees finishes the season 4-4 after losing the season finale to Seaford, 42-0.
This comes as 43 positive COVID-19 cases were reported at nearby Salk Middle School.
