Residents in Hicksville say their street has become dangerously icy days after being plowed.

Neighbors on Emmet Place say that while snow has been cleared from the roadway, a thick layer of ice remains, making it hazardous for both drivers and pedestrians. Neighbors describe it as feeling more like an ice skating rink than a residential street.

Jan Marino says she contacted the Town of Oyster Bay to request that the road be salted, but as of now, no crews have arrived.

“The cars that come down, especially if they are not used to it, are sliding all over the place,” Marino said. “The school bus, she’s driving like 2 mph trying to get down the street.”

Marino also says the problem is made worse at the end of the block, where large piles of snow left behind by plows are blocking part of the roadway. She says vehicles have been getting stuck while trying to maneuver around the narrowed passage.

In response, the Town of Oyster Bay tells News 12 that a crew will be sent out to check on conditions.
