A school bus carrying 11 students and an aide from Haviland Middle School was involved in a multivehicle crash on Albany Post Road, according to Hyde Park Central School District Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman.
The students and bus driver were taken to hospitals for evaluation as a precaution, but no one on the bus was seriously hurt.
The crash, which occurred around 3 p.m., involved a pickup truck that rear-ended a Hyundai, pushing it into the northbound lane and causing it to collide with the school bus. The pickup truck then struck a Honda Accord, which veered off the road and crashed into a residential fence. The driver of the Hyundai sustained serious injuries.
The accident is currently under investigation by police, who say the pickup truck driver was distracted by something inside his vehicle before the crash.
