Boaters will face speed restrictions this weekend and through July Fourth in Huntington Bay and the harbors.
A 5 mph limit will be enforced those days from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The strict speed limit is in place to prevent dangerous wakes that can cause boats to capsize, especially at night during fireworks shows.
That scenario led to the death of 7-year-old girl named Victoria Gaines, who died in Oyster Bay waters on the Fourth of July in 2012.
