Huntington Station is set to receive a $180,000 grant from New York state to install 19 new surveillance cameras and upgrade more than 60 old cameras in crime-ridden areas.
This improvement comes after three teenage boys were stabbed in separate incidents across the neighborhood this year. One of those incidents was in a shopping center that is now on the list to have its surveillance system renovated.
The cameras are being installed by the Huntington Station Business Improvement District. They will be monitored by the Suffolk Police Department.
The camera funds should be available in a few months and are expected to be installed next year, according to town officials.
