A Huntington Station man almost lost out on a $1 million winning scratch off ticket.
Carlos Canas Gonzalez won $1 million from a $5 scratch-off ticket purchased at Huntington Thrifty Beverage on New York Avenue. Police say Gonzalez handed the ticket to store clerk Mohinder Misri, of Huntington, for verification. Misri scanned the ticket, tore it in half and threw it in the garbage, claiming Gonzalez only won $100. Police say Misri even went as far as to retrieve a $20 winning ticket from the garbage saying that was Gonzalez?s ticket.
Gonzalez retrieved his ticket and the storeowner confirmed it was the $1 million winning ticket. Police contend that Misri attempted to deceive Gonzalez of the winning ticket. Misri was arrested for attempted grand larceny.
