People living in Huntington are being warned Wednesday about a potential tax hike.
The Town Board is looking at a proposal to adopt a local law that would allow an overwrite of the state-mandated tax levy limit.
Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone says piercing the current .68 percent cap is necessary because of rising costs of town employee health insurance and retiree health benefits.
If the town adopts a budget that pierces the cap, it would cost homeowners from $18 to $30 more per year in taxes.
The Town Board will make a final decision about whether to adopt a budget that pierces the tax cap.
A public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 27.
