Town of Huntington officials joined LiveOnNY Tuesday to kick off a yearlong campaign to raise awareness about organ donation.
They are reaching out to residents to help town employee Jonas Wagner, who urgently needs a new kidney.
Organ recipients and their families were also there to share stories about how their loved ones got a second chance at life.
Michele Martines says a U.S. Marine saved four lives as a result of his death, including her son's.
"Without him, my son wouldn't be here," Martines says.
The town will be hosting a swabbing event Wednesday to try and find a match for Wagner.
The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Huntington Town Hall.
