A huge fire ripped through a deli in Allerton early Wednesday morning.
The FDNY says the call came in around 4:24 a.m. for a fire at 700 Adee Ave. and escalated to four alarms by 4:54 a.m. Video on the Citizen app shows plumes of smoke and a large FDNY presence at the scene.
The fire brought over 200 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene. The Red Cross said it registered two adults for emergency assistance. No injuries were reported.
News 12 spoke with the building owner’s cousin, Omar Alrobaye, who says four businesses were lost in the fire, including a mechanic, tire shop, flower shop and deli. He said those stores were neighborhood staples, especially the deli.
“This deli is very important to the neighborhood. As you can see, there's not that many businesses around here. The deli supplies all these families,” said Alrobaye.
He told News 12 he tries to remain optimistic, but it’s hard.
Right now, there is a full vacate order on the building, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
