Nassau police officer killed by alleged drunken driver honored in dignified transfer

Nassau County police officer Patricia Espinosa was taken to the St. James Funeral Home following a dignified transfer honoring her memory on Monday.

The 42-year-old mother was fatally struck by an alleged drunken driver just miles from her home on Saturday, according to authorities.

The 20-year-old Hauppauge man involved in the incident has since been charged with DWI.

Espinosa is remembered by loved ones as a dedicated member of the community with a passion for helping those in need.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 829 Middle Country Rd. in St. James.

The funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Smithtown.
