WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Temperatures continue to run below average, Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s and 60s.

Scattered showers arrive by mid-morning. On and off downpours are possible starting this afternoon with a chance of some non-severe thunderstorms developing towards the evening hours.

Ponding on roads may become a concern.

Thursday will see the rain fade early on in the day with breezy to gusty winds picking up. The winds will be stronger closer to the city and coast as supposed to further to the north and west, towards the Catskills.

By Friday, the winds decrease with lowered humidity moving in mostly sunny skies.

TROPICS:

Hurricane Erin is on the move in the Western Atlantic Ocean. It has weakened since it hit CAT 5 status Saturday, but it is still a large and powerful storm.

It is forecast to curve away from the Bahamas and make a northernly turn today. The forecast cone has it going between the East Coast of the U.S. and Bermuda over the next several days.

While a direct impact via a landfall is not going to happen, the system will bring gusty winds and rough surf to our coastal areas. The timeframe for wind and wave activity to increase will be from this afternoon into Thursday and decreasing into Friday.

The higher winds will be towards the LI Sound with less winds around towards the Catskills. There will be some choppy waves in the LI Sound though.
