A recent hit-and-run crash in Riverside has renewed the call for a safer crosswalk.
The incident occurred two weeks ago near Flanders Road and Vail Avenue. Authorities say a 40-year-old man was struck by an SUV that did not stay at the scene.
Ron Fisher, of the Riverside Civic Association, says there is no traffic signal or any advanced warning for drivers that a crosswalk is coming.
The state Department of Transportation says it's studying the location for possible safety upgrades.
Southampton Town police say they are searching for witnesses to the hit-and-run crash. They are urging anyone with information about the incident to call them at 631-702-2230.
