A suspected drunk driver crashed into a parked car in Mastic Saturday, leaving residents fed up with a dangerous roadway.
Ann Lanni said this is the second time a car parked in front of her Cumberland Street house has been hit. Saturday morning, Lanni's car ended up in her neighbor's yard. She said cars often zoom by at 100 mph and turn in from Mastic Road without slowing down. Lanni said about five years ago, she led a petition drive to ask the town to stop the excessive speeding that occurs on Cumberland Street.
"Close the street off, make it a one-way," Lanni said. "Do something that would make it a neighborhood road." Lanni said little has been done in response to her pleas.
Brookhaven Councilwoman Carol Bissonette said she'll explore a long-term solution with traffic engineers. Until then, Bissonette said she may ask police to issue more tickets in that area.
