Some Long Island families are staying close to home to have fun rather than driving far amid high gas prices.
One driver spent $70 to fill up his car tank at $4.31 per gallon for regular unleaded gas. Drivers all over the Island are rethinking their Fourth of July plans to avoid putting a hole in their wallets.
Business was booming Sunday at Farmingdale's Adventureland as parents tried to have quality time with their kids without traveling.
Triple A estimates more than 34 million Americans will hit the road this holiday week, which is down slightly from last year.
