The man suspected of stabbing his mother-in-law to death and seriously injuring his estranged wife in Hicksville was arraigned Thursday.
Police say 33-year-old Harpal Hira, of Hicksville, was arrested Wednesday in Queens. Officials had feared that Hira may have fled to India. According to police, Hira stabbed his mother-in-law, Meena Kohli, and his wife, Ritika, at their Hicksville home earlier this month. Officials say the incident happened after a domestic disturbance at the home during a birthday party for the couple?s twin sons.
Though Kohli had a restraining order out against her husband, he had been allowed in the home for the Aug. 2 party.
Police say Parmjit Puar, who is suspected of driving Hira to hiding places, was also arrested. If convicted, Hira faces 25 years to life in prison. AP wire reports contributed to this article.
