Part I - 'Jen' - Play VideoA former crack addict, Jen's best friend introduced her to heroin a few years back. She's been homeless, lived in a crack house and even tried prostitution just to get a fix. As Jen enters detox once again, time can only tell if she will overcome her harrowing addiction. Part II - Joel Kramer - Play VideoJoel Kramer, now from West Babylon, smoked his first cigarette at age 6 and sniffed glue when he was 10. The 57-year-old says he's done any drug you can think of, been to prison multiple times and feels lucky to be alive. As a recovering heroin addict, Joel goes back to his old stomping grounds, hopeful that his story will help the next generation make better choices.
Part III - Treatment - Play VideoAt the Phoenix House in Hauppauge, a residential drug treatment house, heroin addicts come together to get clean and stay that way. At its normally private meetings, recovering addicts share brutal stories of what they've done and how badly they want to turn things around. After six to nine months at the Phoenix House, each one's resolve is tested as they re-enter society.
